Olympic Sports

I'm sorry that I haven't blogged for a week, I'm pretty busy with getting ready to graduate and everything. Since the Olympics end on Sunday, I thought I would make my obligatory Olympic post. It's my belief that the U.S. can never win too many medals, so I tried to think up some some new, sure-fire gold medal events for the U.S. of A.

  • Football--They have basketball in the summer, so why not football? It would be an easy gold.

  • I think there should be one sport that is a combination of shuffleboard and sweeping. Or maybe shooting and skiiing. (Sorry, I couldn't resist making the also obligatory Curling joke).

  • Social Networking Bob Sled--Athletes will have to comment on all of their friends' wall in the time it takes for them to get to the bottem of the track in a bob sled. Bonus points if you can make any new friends.

  • Texting competition--IMHO ROFLCOPTOR LOL ;)

  • Fattyathalon--The fattest "athlete" wins! It would be just like the Biggest Loser, except reverse rules. Also, all of the contestants will all stay in one big house, and NBC would put camera so we could all follow them up to the week before the weigh-in. They would have access to all of the greatest food in the world, with high def televisions everywhere, and couches made of potatoe chips. Then it would all come down to the night of the weigh in. The "athlete" that weighs the most is then lifted via crane to the podium, while the losers are dropped into a giant pool of pudding.

I Heart Provo

Good news! I got accepted to BYU the other day. This was followed by some more great news: all of my friends also got accepted. But here's the thing. One of them is acting like he is too cool for Provo (I know, Provo is the shiz). He got accepted to all of the BYU's, and basically narrowed it down to Hawaii and Provo, and seems to be leaning toward going to Hawaii. I really want him to go to BYU-Provo with us, so I started trying to list all of Provo's greatest attributes. But then I found that I couldn't come up with very many. Here is my list so far:

  • The Creamery on 9th
  • Buying chips from the Creamery on 9th
  • Brick Oven
  • Feeding the ducks some of the chips you bought at the Creamery at that one pond by Brick Oven
  • Sliding down the railing from the steps that lead up to BYU's uper campus (next to that one pond by Brick Oven)
  • The Fourth of July Grand Parade (it's a Provo classic!)
  • The hot air baloons that can be seen soaring the Provo sky before the 4th of July Grand parade begins
  • J-Dawgs
  • FSN Utah (we're all die-hard Jazz fans)
  • Trips to Maceys, and taking rides in the electic shopping carts they have there
  • Wasatch's fall festival
  • The Desert Towers pool (wait, they don't have that anymore?)
  • All of the caffine-free soda you could ever wish for
  • Plus, all of the people in Hawaii speak a foreign language

Is there anything I missed? Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

A Day in the Life

Have you ever wondered what an average day is like for a senior at Pine View High school? If you find yourself nodding your head, you've definitely come to the right place. If not, then go back to facebook, or write a comment on C.Jane. If you're still reading, then great! I just so happen to be a senior at Pine View High school, located in St. George, Utah. Since you were dying to know, here is an average day for me (in real time), because it's really interesting and I think you should know.
Background information: Before I start with my day, there are a few facts you should know about me first. Yes, the rumors are true. I am the nephew of C.jane, NieNie, and the Jolly Porter. That basically means that my literary capacity is endless. It also means that I have shiny white teeth and grow mustaches in March. Now that that's out of the way...
8:00 a.m.:
I am about to walk out of the door of my house to my car. A serious decision has to be made. Will I wear a jacket today? As you know, it is February, and the northern region of Utah is still getting dumped on with snow and freezing temperatures. But here in Southern Utah, it means mid-60 degree weather and blue skies. So I could wear a jacket, just in case there's a light draft, but then I might have to turn on the a/c in my car. Decisions, decisions.
11:05 a.m.: Time for lunch! Down here by the St. George/Washington City border is a little something we locals like to call In-N-Out Burger. The burgers at In-N-Out are so good, and you are so cool if you can go there because you can usually only find them in California or Arizona. (Crap, they have one in Orem??! Uhhh...did I mention it's SIXTY degrees down here?)
11:55 a.m.: Lunch is over, and drawing class begins, which is really intense. We are currently doing this assignment called an "altered book project." Basically you pick a random book and draw or paint your own pictures or words over the pages. You can do whatever you want to the book to make it your own: rip out the pages, burn the pages, or write satanic poems all over the pages. At first I thought I wasn't depressed enough to "express" myself through the book, but then Mrs. Alder suggested we make our own poetry by picking out random words from a page, and then whiting out all of the excess words. You are then left with a short sentence/thought. I decided to give it a try, and came up with the following sentences: " The sun and the helicopters criticize the police for doing cocaine," and "What's this exotic flight instructor reaching Lincoln Logs for? I did not wear EXPLOSIVES in a truck." Wow, I am so artistic!
1:23 p.m.: Now it's time for chemistry! After taking a quiz on the kinetics of equilibrium, my teacher popped in the movie Miracle to get us excited for the Olympics. It reminded me of one of my favorite youtube clips.
2:45 p.m.: Phew! School's over! Time to drive my sister and me home. This is a crucial time for me. As we make the fifteen minute journey home, we usually like to listen to the radio. Now, there are some things you need to know about the Southern Utah radio stations. One is that they LOVE playing Lady Gaga songs. They are obsessed with it! Once one station is done playing one of (her/his?) songs, the next station starts playing it. Seriously! I make it my goal to race home without hearing one Lady Gaga song, then I run into the house and put two pillows over my ears. Another thing you should know is that the radio stations play "Daughtery" songs on a loop. But here's the thing: Daughtery is not that good. He couldn't even win American Idol for pete's sake! Who ever gets excited about going to a Chris Daughtery concert? Who is anxiously waiting for his next album to come out? But I can never make it through a day without hearing one of his songs. I call it my dose of Daughtery. Have you gotten your dose?
3:05 p.m.: I felt like starting a blog today, because that's just the kind of guy I am.
6:30 p.m.: Time to get ready for my ward basketball game! Ward basketball is a very intense sport. I always like to watch this clip of John Tesh singing an old NBA/NBC theme song (shown to me by Bill Simmons) to get me pumped up and ready to dominate. The best part of that clip is the pirate violinist (seen at the 1:58, 2:19, and 2:45 mark). I wonder if he does parties?
10:15 p.m.: After dominating ward basketball, it is time to read scriptures and go to bed. After writing a post this long, I am ready for some well-deserved rest.
